Audiology services
Effective 1 July 2025, fee descriptors and items have been updated to provide greater clarity on expectations of the practitioners, with additional requirements for providing a copy of the consumer warranty information and details of the modifications or adjustments to the claims managers for hearing aid fittings, as well as specifying that devices should be selected such that there is sufficient capacity to modify/adjust to foreseeable changes in needs within the 5 year expected lifespan of the device. The descriptors for fitting fees have now been clarified to state that these fees cannot be charged where there is a device replacement within 12 months of fitting.
The service and payment policy has been updated to better define and provide clarity on service expectations, including a further specifications on when ReturnToWorkSA will cover the cost of hearing aid replacements and repairs, such as the expectation for providers to supply all relevant documentation with fitting, detail the alternatives to refitting that have been explored, supply information on why warranty does not cover repair/replacement and obtain detailed quotes of damages and/or costs to repair. The service expectations have also been clarified to state that hearing aids are the sole property of the worker and must be returned to them regardless of condition or length of service.
ReturnToWorkSA and the claims agents will be actively monitoring these new requirements to ensure understanding and adherence to the fee schedule and policy.
Other schedule updates
Minor changes have been made to other schedules including introduction of Independent Dental Examiner Fees (Medical 1B Schedule), and adjustments to allied health management plans and treating practitioner reports.
