Consultation paper on permanent impairment assessment released by WorkCover

Wednesday 13 August 2008

WorkCover has released a discussion paper seeking stakeholder views on the accreditation, performance monitoring and training of permanent impairment assessors under the revised lump sum provisions.

Among the issues, two key questions have emerged on which there is some disagreement among some elements of the Permanent Impairment Working Party:

  1. Whether PI assessors should be required to be in clinical practice to be selected and to retain accreditation.
  2. Whether General Practitioners should be accredited as assessors or whether accreditation should be limited to specialists. If GPs are to be accredited, should they be required to be in clinical practice?

The consultation process closes 17 September 2008. Any members with comments regarding these questions or the content of the paper should provide them in writing to SISA as soon as possible, and no later than 5 September 2008.
