Speaker 1: Jeremy Hobbs

Jeremy is a Titled APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Co-Owner of The Second Visit, a mentoring and clinical training company targeted at improving the clinical standard of physiotherapists nationally and internationally.  He has taught extensively across Australia and overseas in India and is passionate about the education of the physiotherapy profession.

He is the founding partner of Back In Motion Mount Barker and continues to practice clinically, now heading up the clinical team as Senior Physiotherapist after selling the majority share to Healthia.

Currently, Jeremy is undertaking the Specialisation Training Program with the Australian College of Physiotherapists to become a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, the highest level of clinical expertise that can be attained by a Physiotherapist in Australia.

Jeremy is currently a Clinical Supervisor for UniSA’s undergraduate program and Latrobe Uni’s post graduate Master’s program.  He has a strong interest in disorders of the shoulder and spine as well as assisting clinicians communicate, lead, and build resilience in Private Practice settings.  Jeremy is passionate about integrating the science and art that is modern physiotherapy by applying collaborative based care over a strong foundation of evidence-based practice.     

What is current best practice treatment for back pain, and why are we not following these principles and reducing the epidemic of persistent back pain?

Jeremy will be presenting on what is considered gold standard interventions, what can be of use when chosen judiciously, what has no evidence but is regularly utilised and what can actually harm yet is often prescribed.  Most importantly despite advances in knowledge acute back pain recurs in 33-80% of cases and often progresses to become chronic. Jeremy will be discussing why we keep ignoring the evidence.

Monique is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Be Well Co which was launched in 2021 as the first spin-out company from SAHMRI (the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute).

Monique is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and prior to SAHMRI, spent her career at professional services firm EY .

Monique was named in The Advertisers' 2022 Top 40 under 40 rising stars of SA. 

Matthew is a Senior Researcher at Be Well Co whos PhD is focused on the relationship between mental health and mental illness, and the implications for our mental health services. Matthew has been part of SAHMRI for over eight years working with organisations and community groups to implement and evaluate mental health programs. He is also the host of the podcast ‘Researching Happy’ which explores the stories behind the world’s leading wellbeing studies and researchers.
