The proportion of total SA workers compensation liabilities carried by self insurers dropped to its lowest level ever by 30 June 2008 based on data provided to SISA. Self insurers accounted for 19.6% of total SA liabilities, while the insured scheme carried 80.4%.
Given that self insurance covers 36% of the scheme by remuneration, we regard this as more clear evidence that self insurers are performing better in terms of both injury prevention and return to work.
